Sinai Temple
The congregation was founded in 1931 and is a Reform synagogue. It belongs to the Union for Reform Judaism, which is an umbrella organization of Reform synagogues throughout North America. After being founded in 1931, the congregation first met in a home on Sumner Avenue. In 1949, the cornerstone for the current building on Dickinson Street was laid and this building became the synagogue where the congregation has conducted its activities since then. Taking great pride in its school and its worship, the congregation is also pleased that it has been involved in a number of social justice programs. During its 75th anniversary, it helped create an refurbish a playground for the Washington Street School in Springfield. In May 2006, it conducted a Swim-a-Thon at the Jewish Community Center and raised funds to provide swimming lessons for children in Springfield. Several years ago, Sinai Temple became involved with the absorption and adoption of a refugee family from Somalia. Over the years, the congregation has become involved with Habitat for Humanity. 413-736-3619 1100 Dickinson Street Springfield, MA 01108 United States Meeting time: Services are Friday evenings and Saturday mornings link: |
