On Saturday, January 30, 1020, the Pioneer Valley Project held its annual Ministry In Community Action Honorees Award Ceremony. It was again held at the Sinai Temple in Springfield, Massachusetts. There were twelve honorees from eleven member organizations.

Issues

PVP has been working over the past year on a campaign to improve the safety for the immigrant community. Through this work , PVP found that immigrants and Spanish language speakers often are unable to get police protection because they cannot reach interpreters when they call 911 or when officers show up on the streets.


The Pioneer Valley Project immigrant organizing committee has provided monthly food distributions to the immigrant farmworker community for three years to help families survive winters when they have little or no work.

PVP is working with the building trades to ensure that public projects hire local people and expand opportunities in the city.

The parent-teacher home visit program that PVP initiated in 2006 will benefit many new families next year thanks to a $1.25 million, five year "Closing the Achievement Gap" grant that the Springfield Education Association Foundation. Read the history of the home visit project.
