Immigrant Organizing: Winter Food Distribution Expands

PVP's immigrant organizing committee has provided monthly food distributions to the immigrant farmworker community for three years to help families survive winters when they have little or no work. Monthly organizing meetings are held to plan the food distributions and to lay the groundwork for organizing around other issues. In February, 230 people participated in the community meeting and food distribution. The last winter community meeting was held on Sunday, March 7, and the final food distribution on March 14. The Food Bank recently made a $400 grant to support the project, and River Valley Market food cooperative in Northampton raised $495 during an open collection in January.
